Montgomery Township Swears In Chief William R. Peoples as New Chief of Police
On Veterans Day, November 11, 2024, Montgomery Township officially swore in Chief William R. Peoples as its new Chief of Police during a public Board of Supervisors meeting. Chief Peoples, a 27-year veteran of the Montgomery Township Police Department and a U.S. Army veteran of Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm, has a distinguished career dedicated to public service.
Reflecting on his journey and the support he’s received, Chief Peoples shared, “I’m honored to step into this role and grateful to everyone who helped me along the way. I’m committed to maintaining the integrity and high standards of our department and doing everything I can to make it even better for Montgomery Township.”
The swearing-in ceremony, held during the Board of Supervisors’ public meeting, was a moment of pride for Montgomery Township, with retired Montgomery County Court of Common Pleas Judge Stanley R. Ott, a close family friend of Chief Peoples, administering the Loyalty Oath. Chief Peoples has served as Acting Chief following Chief J. Scott Bendig’s retirement in September and brings a wealth of experience and leadership to his new role.
Beginning his career with Montgomery Township in 1997, Chief Peoples has served in roles such as DARE Instructor, Field Training Supervisor, and Lieutenant. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and holds a Master of Science degree in Criminal Justice.
Please join Montgomery Township in congratulating Chief Peoples as he embarks on this new chapter, continuing his commitment to public safety with dedication and pride.
