Several members of the Fire Department of Montgomery Township were presented with awards during the Board of Supervisors Meeting on Monday, October 12. In addition to the awards recognition, Firefighter Bob Hedden was also recognized for his retirement from the Montgomery Township Department of Fire Services and years of service. Congratulations to Firefighter Bob Hedden and the following F.D.M.T. members for their achievements!

President’s Award Recipient: Joel Silver

This is an annual award presented by the president of the department to a member that was an asset to the president and the department over the past year.  The recipient of this award has displayed great dedication to the department and its administrative goals.  The award is reserved for a member that has gone above and beyond in helping the department achieve success. 

Chief’s Award Recipient: Adam Zwislewski

This is an annual award presented by the chief of the department to a member that was an asset to the chief and the department over the past year.  The recipient of this award has displayed great dedication to the department and its operational goals.  The award is reserved for a member that has gone above and beyond in helping the department achieve success. 

Dave Bennett Firefighter of the Year Award Recipient: Lee Morano

The Dave Bennett Firefighter of the Year Award was named after the late Chief Engineer Dave Bennett last year. The Firefighter of the Year Award began in 2012 and Dave received it twice. 

This is an annual award presented by the Chief of the Department to a member that has been selected by their fellow members.  The recipient of this award has displayed a high level of activity, dedication, willingness to assist fellow members, and overall support of the department’s operational goals and mission.  This award is reserved for a member that has gone above and beyond in helping the department and his fellow members achieve success.   

Department Community Sponsor Award Recipient: Syrena Collision Center

This business has continued to support the mission of the fire department.  Specifically, this business assisted the department with its National Proboard Certification for Vehicle Rescue and State Certification for Vehicle Rescue Technician and Special Vehicle Rescue Technician.  The business also supports the ongoing annual training mission of the department by supplying the department with vehicles for training. 

Past Chief Recognition Award Recipient- Fire Chief Vince Zirpoli 

Chief Zirpoli joined the department 15 years ago, and has served as Lieutenant, Captain, Battalion, Assistant, and Deputy Chief. His son Tyler was a member before leaving for college and his youngest son Anthony is currently a member. Thank you for your dedication and service as Fire Chief to the Fire Department of Montgomery Township and the Community. 

Recognition of Retirement from the Department of Fire Services- Firefighter Bob Hedden

Firefighter Hedden joined the Department of Fire Services on August 10, 2007 as a part-time Deputy Fire Marshal and was hired as the township’s third full time firefighter on January 2, 2009.  In his time at the department, Bob initiated the department’s mall inspection program, community risk reduction programs, and managed the SARA Title III program.  He was the first president of the Montgomery Township Professional Firefighters Local 4890. Firefighter Hedden is well known and respected in Montgomery and Bucks County’s fire service community.  He was also instrumental in the creation of the Lower Bucks County Public Safety Training Center, and continues to serve his community as a volunteer with the Falls Township Volunteer Fire Department.  Congratulations on your retirement and good luck in your future endeavors!
