The Montgomery Township Finance Department was recognized by the Board of Supervisors at the public meeting held on Monday, February 26, 2018, for receiving the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting awarded by the Government Finance Officers Association. Nick Hiriak, President of the Pennsylvania Chapter of the Government Finance Officers Association and the Finance Director for Upper Merion Township, attended the meeting to present this special award. The Township received the certificate for the fiscal year ended December 2016. This is the 8th consecutive year that the Finance Department has received this award.

According to the Government Finance Officers Association, The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.

To earn this certificate, the Finance Department has to prepare a comprehensive annual financial report showing the “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate the township’s financial story and motivate potential users to read the report.

The Government Finance Officers Association is a major professional association serving nearly 19,000 government finance professionals with offices in Chicago, Illinois, and Washington D.C.
