Join Our Team: Public Works Laborer – Make a Difference in Your Community
Montgomery Township, Montgomeryville PA, seeks a reliable, hardworking, and community-minded individual to join our Public Works Department. This hands-on position plays a vital role in maintaining the quality, safety, and beauty of our local parks, roads, and public facilities. If you enjoy working outdoors, operating equipment, and making a visible impact, we want to hear from you!
Key Responsibilities:
- Parks & Grounds Maintenance: Perform landscaping tasks including tree planting/removal, mowing, trimming, leaf raking, seeding, and trail upkeep. Maintain and paint pavilions, sheds, and signage.
- Roadway Maintenance: Repair potholes, seal cracks, resurface streets, paint crosswalks and stop lines, sweep streets, and assist with snow and ice removal during the winter.
- Stormwater & Drainage: Install and maintain storm sewers, inlets, creeks, and swales to manage erosion and water flow.
- Facilities Support: Assist with general building maintenance, including minor plumbing, electrical, welding, carpentry, and custodial tasks.
- Equipment Operation: Safely operate and maintain hand tools, power tools (chainsaws, trimmers, etc.), and Township vehicles such as dump trucks, front-end loaders, and tractors.
- Emergency Response: Be available for call-outs during storms, floods, or other emergencies requiring road clearing or facility repairs.
- Community Interaction: Maintain positive relationships with residents and represent the Township in a courteous, professional manner.
What We’re Looking For:
- A strong work ethic and ability to follow instructions and safety procedures.
- Physical ability to lift up to 80 lbs., work outdoors in varying weather, and perform manual labor daily.
- Willingness to work overtime and respond to emergency situations when needed.
- Experience with landscaping, construction, electrical work, carpentry, or equipment operation is a plus.
- A team player who takes pride in serving the local community.
Minimum Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to understand and follow standard operating procedures and safety guidelines.
- Valid driver’s license (CDL A preferred or at a minimum be willing to attain CDL A within a year of hire date).
- Comfortable working in challenging environments (noise, heights, confined spaces, weather exposure).
