Township Manager to Retire in January 2020

The Board of Supervisors has announced that after over 42 years of local government service, Township Manager Larry Gregan will retire from his position as Montgomery Township Manager at the end of 2019.

Larry has been Montgomery Township’s manager since 2011, having previously served as the Township’s Finance Director from 2007 to 2010. Prior to working at Montgomery Township, Larry worked in various municipal government positions including serving as Code Officer/Fire Marshal/Assistant to Township Manager for Springfield Township from 1977 to 1983, Township Manager/Secretary for Whitemarsh Township for twenty years from 1984 to 2004 and Growth Management Director for the Town of Lady Lake Florida from 2005 to 2007. Larry also served in various positions for the Montgomery County Consortium of Communities, the Montgomery County Waste System Authority and the Montgomery County Tax Collection Committee.  Larry holds a Bachelor’s Degree in History & Education from LaSalle University and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Penn State University.

“I have had a great career in Local Government having worked for and with outstanding elected officials, appointed professionals and staff dedicated to providing quality services to the residents and businesses of our communities. The credit really goes to all the various elected officials I have worked for over the years who provided the direction, guidance and the resources to make their communities great places to live and work,” said Larry Gregan, Township Manager.

“He's been a fabulous employee for the township. He's going to be very difficult to replace, because there's just not that many people that have the breadth of knowledge that Larry has, and all of the experience in all phases of the township, all aspects: the finance side, the personnel side, the public relations side. He's just been a great resource for the township," said Michael J. Fox, Chairman of the Board of Supervisors.

When asked, Larry noted a few of his proudest accomplishments in his career involved supervising the planning, design construction and operations of Montgomery Township’s 40,000 square foot Community and Recreation Center and working on several sanitary sewer extension projects, providing sewer service to properties with failing septic systems. Each of these projects focused on improving the quality of life for the homeowners as well as increased housing values in the community.

At its annual Education Conference on April 15th, the Pennsylvania State Association of Township Supervisors recognized Larry’s service with the award of the Association’s President’s Leadership Award. The award is given annually to a Township Secretary or Manager who has achieved or helped achieve outstanding accomplishments through projects or programs that benefited their community and whose service to the township exhibited the highest standards of dedication, creativity, and leadership.

Larry will retire January 1, 2020, when current Township Manager Designee, Carolyn McCreary, will officially be appointed as Township Manager. Click here to learn more about Carolyn McCreary.
