Canine Demonstrations

The Department’s Canine Unit provides demonstrations to school and civic groups. During these demonstrations, the handlers introduce the canines to the public and demonstrate the abilities of canines for law enforcement.

Car Seat Installation

The Department provides residents with the opportunity to receive instruction on the proper method and procedure for installing children’s car seats. This service is provided by personnel certified in child passenger safety.

Citizens Police Academy

Members of the Department, in conjunction with the Community Policing Liaison, conduct an annual Citizens Police Academy. The academy is a ten-week interactive program that is designed to educate the community about the operations of the Department.

Coffee With A Cop

The Department regularly holds Coffee with a Cop events, coming together with citizens in an informal setting to discuss community issues, build relationships and drink coffee.

Child Fingerprinting

The Department provides residents with the opportunity to have their children fingerprinted and photographed for identification purposes. Upon completion, residents are provided with an identification card containing their fingerprints and photograph.

Junior Police Academy

The Department hosts an annual two-day Junior Police Academy as a way for officers to foster positive relationships with children in our community and introduce them to the wide variety of careers within the emergency services field.

National Night Out

National Night Out promotes involvement in crime prevention activities, police-community partnerships, and neighborhood camaraderie. Activities include various demonstrations by emergency service personnel, giveaways, food, and prizes.

National Drug Take-Back Initiative

The Department takes part in The National Drug Take Back Initiative Program. The program’s aim is to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible way to dispose of prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of medications.

Police Station Tours

The Department welcomes civic and student groups to tour our police station. Participants learn about the station and our personnel, and they are shown some of the equipment the officers carry. Tours are offered by appointment only.

Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE)

DARE is a police officer-led series of classroom lessons that teaches children how to resist peer pressure and live productive drug and violence-free lives. Members of the Department present the DARE program to 4th-grade students at Bridle Path Elementary, Montgomery Elementary, and Mary, Mother of the Redeemer School.

Public Safety Seminars

As a service to our community, the Department provides public seminars to address pressing issues and concerns relative to topics and trends in law enforcement.

Safe Exchange Location

The Department’s lobby is staffed 24 hours a day. Residents are encouraged to use the Municipal Building Complex parking lot as a safe venue for conducting transactions.

Ride Along Program

Residents 18 years of age or older who are interested in the functions of the police department are invited to apply a ride-along request/waiver of liability with the department and, upon approval, ride with one of the uniformed officers on patrol.  Non-residents attending criminal justice classes or employed in the criminal justice system may also request a ride-along.  Applicants will be subjected to a criminal background check and are limited to one ride-along per calendar year.  Once a request is approved, the participant will be notified and scheduled to ride.
