Residential Smoke Alarm Program

Residential Smoke Alarm Program

The Montgomery Township Department of Fire Services and the volunteer FDMT combine efforts with the Channel 6ABC Save-A-Life Program to help have a working smoke alarm in every residence in our Township by offering donated smoke alarms.

These smoke alarms are available free of charge to Township residents at the Battalion One Stump Road Fire Station and at Battalion Two Doylestown Pike Fire Station.

If assistance is needed for installing the smoke alarms, please call the Fire Marshal's Office at 215-393-6936.

Simple Home Fire Safety Tips:

  1. Practice smoke-alarm maintenance for a simple, effective way to reduce home fire deaths.
  2. Test your smoke alarms monthly to make sure they are working.
  3. Have at least one working smoke alarm on each level of your home.
  4. Plan, discuss and practice a fire escape route with your family.
  5. Be sure not to ignore the chirping sound your smoke alarm makes when maintenance is required.
  6. Keep fire-starting materials away from children, including lighters, matches, cigarettes, cigars and pipes.
  7. Use flashlights rather than candles to light your home during power outages.

Space heaters need space. Portable space heaters need a three-foot (one meter) clearance from anything that can burn and should always be turned off when leaving the room or going to sleep
