Daily use of the Montgomery Township Park System is governed by the Montgomery Township Code of Regulations. In general, all of the Township parks are available to residents for daily use from sunrise to one hour after sunset. The Code states that if a facility is lighted during evening hours, the illuminated portion shall remain open to the public until 11 PM. Residents may obtain special permission to utilize parks after general hours of operation upon submitting an application to the Township at least five days prior to the intended use date. However, the facility may only be used until 10 PM unless it is illuminated, in which case it may be utilized until 11 PM.
The Code goes on to state that under no circumstances are alcoholic beverages permitted within any park at any time. Fires are also prohibited in all parks unless cooking grills or fireplaces are specifically provided for in the park. After a fire has been lit by a member of the general public, they are responsible for fully extinguishing the fire after use. Any damage caused due to the carelessness of individuals smoking cigarettes is considered a violation of park rules and anyone responsible shall be held liable for associated fines and damages caused to park property.
In addition, the Township prohibits use of parks by groups in excess of 25 people, except by special permission. An application for use must be submitted to the Township Park Board for review and approval. Also, the following types of activities are prohibited within the Township Parks at all times:
Anyone who violates the above rules and regulations may be convicted in District Court and also be fined a monetary penalty plus any associated prosecution costs. If applicable fines are not paid, the violator may be subject to imprisonment in the County Jail for a period of not less than thirty days.
