The Fire Marshal's Office is committed to providing an effective and reasonable customer service response to the businesses within our Township while providing a public education and fire code enforcement program to ensure the life safety of the citizenry we are obligated to protect.

Management of the Office of the Fire Marshal

The Director/Chief Fire Marshal possesses the authority to sign off on all major areas of responsibility and their attendant issues. All Fire Marshals under the immediate supervision of the Director will perform the physical activities necessary to accomplish and fulfill the responsibilities.

The Director and/or Deputy Fire Marshal will follow up on all violations that result from the inspections.

The Director and/or Deputy Fire Marshal conducts plan reviews and preliminary site recognizance.

The Knox Box Program is coordinated from the Office of the Fire Marshal. The Knox Box is located outside of all area businesses and holds a key to the building. Only the Department can open the box, allowing firefighters access to the building during an emergency. If the lock cylinder on your businesses Knox Box has not been changed since the Department began serving the Township, please contact the Department at (215) 393-6936. Anyone who has changed locks to their building should also contact the Department to ensure that the proper keys are in the Knox Box.

Operations

The career firefighters perform daily inspections of the business properties while retaining their ability to respond to emergencies. All Assistant Fire Marshals provide coverage for non-business hours response. This allows to Department to provide twenty-four hour, seven days per week coverage of a Fire Marshal for investigations. Two person teams perform investigations. In the event that the incident is not accidental and is suspicious/incendiary the Township Police Detectives are utilized.

The Director/Chief Fire Marshal will respond to assist Assistant Fire Marshals and provide expertise and advice when necessary. The Director will respond in all cases where there is a fatality, incendiary fire and/ or serious incident.
