Business Privilege & Mercantile Tax

Every person desiring to engage in a permanent business in Montgomery Township must obtain a business license prior to commencing business. Business licenses can be obtained by contacting the Business Tax Office. The fee for a business license is currently $25 per calendar year. Businesses must renew their business license before March 15th of each year. The license renewals are incorporated with the filing of the annual business tax return.

Business Privilege & Mercantile Tax Information

The Business Privilege Tax is imposed upon all trades, occupations and professions in which there is offered any service to the general public and the rental of property and equipment. The Mercantile Tax is imposed upon dealers or vendors of goods, wares and merchandise. The tax is calculated based on total gross receipts which includes all cash, credits or property received by a person carrying on a business in the township undiminished by any costs of doing business, including both services, labor and materials.
