Each day, more than 100,000 vehicles pass through Montgomery Township. A well-maintained road network is essential to helping those vehicles and their passengers move from place to place. The Township is continuously looking to improve the road network to accommodate existing vehicles and new traffic. As part of that effort, the Township maintains a comprehensive roadway improvement plan.
The Township has several current projects that are part of roadway improvement plans. The projects include the widening of Horsham Road from Route 309 to Stump Road and the widening of Route 309 and Five Points intersection. There are currently more than 30 projects on the Township's plan. Funding for the projects comes from a variety of sources, including the Township, Federal and State government, and developers. Some projects can be completed in months while others take years to move from design through completion.

Presently, Route 309 carries an Average Daily Traffic (ADT) volume of approximately 52,000 vehicles on weekdays, 48,000 vehicles on weekends. PennDOT's traffic management strategy for reconstruction of the Route 309 expressway is to keep two travel lanes open in each direction at all times in most areas. However, traffic impacts and delays can be expected due to the planned closure of selected interchange ramps, the narrowing and shifting of lanes, and the distracting presence of large-scale construction activity, barriers and equipment along this heavily traveled corridor. See how you can contribute to the safe and smooth flow of traffic during Route 309 construction by visiting the 309 Online Web site.

Transportation plays a very important role in making communities more livable. For most people, traffic congestion on the way to work, a soccer game, or the mall is the transportation quality of life factor that most of us think about first. The Montgomery Township Board of Supervisors is teaming up with the Partnership Transportation Management Association of Montgomery County (Partnership TMA) to address strategies to improve the flow of vehicles and make non-driving transportation options available to residents.
