What is the Homestead Exclusion and how does it work?

If a resident is approved for the Homestead Exclusion, the Township will deduct $15,000 from the property's assessed value when calculating local property taxes. The deduction does not affect the assessed value of the home. Residents may apply during the three month application period each year and will see the savings reflected on the following year's tax bill. Residents are reminded that they do not have to reapply every year, but if they do move within the Township they do have to reapply for the new property. The new resident must reapply for the Exclusion, as well. For more information or an application, follow the appropriate link above or contact the Township at (215) 393-6900.
