March 1, 2004
Montgomery Township has won three awards and the top honor - the Thirteenth Annual Outstanding Citizen Communication Award - in the Pennsylvania State Association of Township Supervisors' 36th Annual Township Citizen Communication Contest. The annual contest recognizes townships that have successfully communicated programs and activities to their residents.
Montgomery Township was chosen as the third place winner in the Class 1 Newsletter, Cable TV Channel, and Internet Home Page categories.
The association will present the Montgomery Township Board of Supervisors with the Outstanding Citizen Communication Award at its annual state convention in Hershey in April in front of more than 3,500 township officials from all over Pennsylvania. The annual award is given to one township for its overall achievement and commitment to citizen communication.
All entries were judged on the usefulness of the information presented and how well the information was communicated. Publications were also judged on their overall attractiveness and readability.
Judges for the contest included the chairperson of the association's Publications - Public Relations Committee, a representative from the Governor's Center for Local Government Services, and staff members of the Pennsylvania Township News, the association's official monthly magazine.
The Pennsylvania State Association of Township Supervisors represents Pennsylvania's 1,456 townships of the second class and is committed to preserving and strengthening township government and securing greater visibility and involvement for townships in the state and federal political arenas. Townships of the second class represent more residents - 5.1 million Pennsylvanians - than any other type of political subdivision in the commonwealth.
In 2002, Montgomery Township received two awards for its entries in the Pennsylvania State Association of Township Supervisors' 34th Annual Township Citizen Communications Contest. Montgomery Township was chosen as the second place winner in the "Miscellaneous Communications Media - Home Pages" category for its home page on the Internet and tied for third place with Upper Merion Township, Montgomery County, in "Miscellaneous Communication Media - Cable TV Channels" category.
